Sandblasting is a method of natural relief carving--another way to add attractive dimension to a handcrafted sign. A rubber stencil forms a protective mask for letters and images while the background is etched by a high-pressure mix of sand and air. This creates rich texture as the letters (or other mask-protected areas) stand out from the eroded background.
